Cape Cod Cold-Stunned Turtle Rescue the Subject of New Documentary

WELLFLEET – When sea turtles linger too long around Cape Cod waters in the fall, they begin to strand on the beach, a sign of poor health. This process is called cold-stunning, and in 2014, rehabilitation experts counted record numbers of cold-stunned turtles showing up on Cape beaches.

While officials scrambled to save the turtles’ lives – administering first aid, braving wind-whipped beaches and collecting critical data – two filmmakers from Seattle were capturing it all on camera.

A new feature-length documentary, “Cold Stunned: Sea Turtles on the Brink,” is ready for its debut on Cape Cod.

A screening of it will take place on Saturday, January 14th from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Cape Cinema in Dennis.

Tickets are 15 dollars and all proceeds will benefit the Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary, one of the organizations which helps turtles during stranding season.

There will also be a chance to meet the filmmakers the same night, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Cape Cod Museum of Art.
