HYANNIS – Cape Cod will mark the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday with a number of events aimed at carrying on the legacy of the civil rights leader.

In Falmouth, the national holiday breakfast at the Coonamessett Inn will honor Dr. King with a 9:30 a.m. program. The event is put on by No Place for Hate, an organization that works to stop bias and build respect via advocacy and education.

The Annual MLK Day breakfast sponsored by Nauset Interfaith will be held at the Church of the Holy Spirit in Orleans at 8:30 a.m. This year’s event is called “The America I Believe In Is…” and will feature visual and written art from Nauset and Monomoy High School students.

The annual AmeriCorps Cape Cod MLK Day of Service will be at the Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School from 9 a.m. until noon. Volunteers will be creating murals, scarves, and tote bags and will package toiletries to help people in need.

Wellfleet will mark the holiday with a drum circle at 11:30 a.m. outside of town hall, followed by a silent walk down Main Street at noon.

Sunday in Hyannis, a silent march was held from Barnstable Town Hall to the Federated Church of Hyannis on Main Street. The march was followed by an interfaith service in King’s memory.
