Cape Tourism Officials Lobbying Lawmakers to Restore Funding

BOSTON – Officials from the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce head to Beacon Hill Wednesday to lobby lawmakers to restore cut funding for tourism marketing.

Gov. Charlie Baker recently slashed $7 million in statewide tourism funding, including 50 percent of the Chamber’s regional marketing grant. The move, according to CEO Wendy Northcross, effectively wipes out the Cape Cod Chamber’s spring and summer marketing campaign.

The state’s 16 regional tourism councils will lobby the legislature Wednesday to try and get the funding returned.

Lawmakers have the option to restore the cuts with a supplemental budget request.
