Construction on Sandwich Gas Line To Begin This Spring

constructionSANDWICH – National Grid says they will soon begin construction of the gas line on Service Road in Sandwich.

The Sagamore Line Reinforcement Project will begin sometime this spring. It will include installation of a 20-inch gas transmission main for over 4.4 miles on the north side of Service Road between Route 130 and Chase Road.

Phase 1 will go from Route 130 east to Quaker Meeting House Road and phase 2 will go from Quaker Meeting House Road east to Chase Road.

The plan will require trees along the road to be cut down.

Neighbors were opposed to the cutting, saying it would increase noise from nearby Route 6.

The purpose of the project, according to Shannon Baxevanis of National Grid, is to maintain reliability and meet the growing demand for natural gas on Cape Cod.”

The project has been reviewed and approved by the Energy Facilities Siting Board and the Cape Cod Commission and has received permits from the town of Sandwich.

The project is expected to take one year to complete. The work will progress along the routes anywhere from a few days to a few weeks at a time.
