Drug Tests Come Back Negative For Captain and Pilot of SSA M/V Iyanough

HYANNIS – Drug tests that were taken by the Captain and Pilot of the Steamship Authority’s high speed ferry, the M/V Iyanough, following last Friday’s accident have come back negative.

Both were in the wheelhouse when the ferry struck a breakwater as it entered Hyannis Harbor.

A previous alcohol test for the Captain and Pilot also came back negative.

The Steamship Authority said that both remain on paid administrative leave as the U.S. Coast Guard’s investigation continues into the circumstances and cause of the grounding.

The M/V Iyanough is expected to be out of service for 3 to 4 weeks while undergoing repairs.

In the meantime, the Authority has chartered a vessel to operate a high speed ferry schedule for Nantucket.

The trips will have a lower passenger capacity than normal but reservations are strongly suggested.
