Falmouth Police Chief Gives Quarterly Report

FALMOUTH – Falmouth Police Chief Edward Dunne gave a quarterly report of the department’s activities this month at a Board of Selectmen’s meeting.

Police made 15 opiate-related arrests bring the yearly total to 45.

There were 18 undercover drug buys and nine warrant arrests were made.

Dunne says there have been 121 overdoses this year including nine deaths.

Police are continuing their partnership with Gosnold on Cape Cod and made 56 home visits along with Gosnold staff between March and November to individuals who survived overdoses.

A similar program is also underway with Falmouth Human Services and police to conduct home visits to follow up with mental health related incidents that are reported to the department.

“We hadn’t been dealing with it other than responding as a police department, taking them to the hospital, responding again and taking them to the hospital,” Dunne said. “That is why we came up with this program.”

Dunne said there have been 43 mental health home visits since starting the program, adding that there have been 132 mental health related calls.

“We’re playing catch up,” he said. Police plan to make follow up visits a few days each month after they have visited each home once.

Dunne also provided an update on Officer Richard Bradley who was injured during a crash with another vehicle in his cruiser on June 27.

“He’s still recovering,” Dunne said. “I’m pleased to announce that all his braces and everything that he had on have been removed and he is continuing to make good progress through physical therapy.”
