HYANNIS – Walkers and runners will take to the streets of Hyannis Tuesday night to raise money for children battling life-threatening illnesses.
The run/walk benefits Camp Sunshine, a Casco, Maine retreat which provides respite, recreation, and support for those children and their families.
“Camp Sunshine is a wonderful place,” said Barnstable police officer Brian Morrison, who is organizing the event. “It allows families and their children to spend anywhere from four days to a week with each other and do thing that they normally wouldn’t do. It gives them a break from all the doctors appointments and hospital visits.
The Camp offers year-round retreats to families, free of charge, while providing on-site medical support. It talks about $2,500 to sponsor a family.
Tonight’s two-mile event begins with registration at the Hyannis Village Green at 4 p.m. There will be groupings for all ages.
