National Weather Service Predicting More Snow for the Cape and Islands on Monday

Snow-on-the-BeachHYANNIS – More snow is expected for the Cape and Islands this week, according to the National Weather Service.

A winter storm watch will be in effect Sunday evening through Monday night, with the Cape expected to get 10 to 14 inches of snow.

Meteorologist Alan Dunham says not to expect the fluffy kind of snow.

“For the Cape it will be a heavier, wetter snow and even Nantucket may see a brief period where they see a rain or snow mix, that’s why we’re anticipating lower amounts there,” said Dunham.

Nantucket is expected to get six to eight inches of snow Monday.

Winds are expected to be North West at 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph on Monday.

Dunham adds that this storm will be progressive and the heaviest snow will come down during a 12 to 18 hour period, as opposed to Winter Storm Juno, which was slow moving and was in the area for 24 to 30 hours.

“We’re not looking at prolonged blizzard conditions like we had for the blizzard itself, but there will be times, that with the heavy snow and the blowing and drifting, that visibility will be very poor, so I’m not going to recommend driving during the day on Monday,” said Dunham.
