The initiative is part of the school districts efforts to expand it’s global education program.
“This is our third year and every year we’ve had more students,” said Jennifer Rako, Local Coordinator and liason for the program. “We have students from lots of different countries and this year they are primarily from China.”
Families that host students are required to provide the student a private room and three meals a day.
Rako said that ideal families should live in the Nauset district which includes Wellfleet, Eastham, Orleans and Brewster although host families have lived outside the district.
Host families that do not live in the district would have to provide transportation for the student.
The following will be provided to host families:
A $700 stipend is paid monthly to host families to offset expenses.
There is also an orientation program for the students, families and school.
Access to a local residential coordinator who will be available 24 hours a day.
Support as needed from bilangual and bicultural staff.
A referal bonus of $150 to any individual and $250 to any organization that results in an approved host family application.
