The 14th Annual Seaside LeMans go-kart race is taking place at the Commons Saturday from 12-4 p.m.
Each year The Davenport Companies transforms a portion of the Commons into a race-track, on which a four-hour Formula One go-kart endurance race takes place.
The teams of drivers are compiled of locals from businesses and organizations on the Cape.
This year’s Grand Marshal, U.S. Congressman Bill Keating, will give opening remarks, which will be followed by a patriotic opening ceremony featuring an honor guard, and a flyover.
All proceeds raised during the race support the Cape Cod Community.
This year’s beneficiaries include Cape & Islands Veterans Outreach Center, Cape Cod Baseball League, Cape Cod Healthcare, Cape Cod Museum of Natural History, and Cape Cod Regional Substance Abuse Prevention Initiative.
“From the beginning, the whole focus of this event has been on bringing the community together to support Cape Cod,” said event founder DeWitt Davenport, President of The Davenport Companies.
The family-friendly event is free and open to the public.
In addition to the race, there will be music, food and beverage vendors, children’s activities, and a merchandise tent.
Cape Cod Healthcare is the Official Medical Care Provider for the 2014 race and will be hosting a Medical Tent as well as a Blood Drive.
