BUZZARDS BAY – Massachusetts Secretary of Energy and Environmental Affairs Matthew Beaton was at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy in Buzzards Bay this week.
His goal was to get familiar with the work being done at MMA in both energy and environmental projects.
Beaton said a lot of the work being done at the school is in line with the priorities of the Baker-Polito Administration.
“We can strengthen partnerships going forward and work together for shared interests and goals,” said Beaton.
He toured several facilities at the school, including an aquaculture lab along the Cape Cod Canal.
He also learned about kinetic turbines and other energy projects being worked on at the MMA.
MMA Admiral Francis McDonald said that Beaton’s visit was a chance for the school to show the secretary some of the cutting edge work they’re doing.
“We really wanted to give him a chance to see the investment that the academy has made, with a lot of support from the state over the years and how we have leveraged those investments in the renewable energy areas,” said McDonald.
