Spaceman Lands on Cape Cod: Former Red Sox Lefty Bill Lee to Play in Cape League Charity Game

HYANNIS – Former Red Sox Lefty Bill “Spaceman” Lee will play in an upcoming charity softball organized by the Cape Cod Baseball League to benefit Spaulding Rehab Hospital.

Lee, a fan favorite from the 1970’s who still pitches in games across the country, is the latest former Red Sox player to commit to the event. The league also announced Tuesday that Jose Santiago, a pitcher on the beloved 1967 “Impossible Dream” Red Sox, will also play in the game.

Former Red Sox catcher Jason Varitek is one of the headlining players for the event. Varitek starred for the Cape League’s Hyannis Mets before going on to professional baseball. Olympic figure skater Nancy Kerrigan and former Patriots quarterback and 98.5 The Sports Hub host Scott Zolak are also scheduled to play.

The Cape Cod Baseball League celebrity softball game will serve as a fundraiser Spaulding Rehab Hospital Cape Cod. It is scheduled for Friday, July 21 at McKeon Park in Hyannis.

Tickets are $25 when purchased in advance and $30 day of. Children’s tickets are $10 in advance and $15 on the day of the event.

An after party is planned for the Cape Cod Maritime Museum on South Street in Hyannis, where attendees will get to meet some of the celebrities. Tickets are $50.

The celebrity softball game will serve as a kickoff event for All-Star Weekend. The Cape League All-Star Game will be played at Spillane Field in Wareham on July 22.

Rep Tim Whelan (R-Brewster), Barnstable Police Chief Paul McDonald, Acting Hyannis Fire Chief Dean Melanson, Boston Marathon bombing survivor Roseann Sdoia, Hot 96.9 radio host Ramiro, CCB-Media news reporter and 98.5 The Sports Hub anchor Matt McCarthy, NBC Boston reporter Natasha Verma, former WBZ-TV reporter Scott Wahle, Real World New Orleans cast member Ashlee Feldman, HGTV personalty Chris Lambton and his wife Peyton.
