WELLFLEET – Record numbers of turtles, mostly Kemps Ridleys, continue to find themselves washing up on Cape Cod beaches after becoming cold stunned.

There are so many, they are now being flown to Florida rehab centers to make room for additional animals in this area.

Bob Prescott of the Mass Audubon Wellfleet Wildlife Sanctuary said they continued to come in over the weekend.

“We are still getting  turtles in so we are up over 900 at the moment, over the weekend we will probably go over one thousand.”

Prescott says volunteers have been invaluable in saving the animals, the stranding season wraps up in January.
