Fitness Guru Says Anyone Can Start Exercising

HYANNIS – Personal Trainer Julie Johnson remembers taking her first exercise run as a young child and liking how it made her feel. Now her job as a personal trainer is getting people motivated to exercise no matter their age or ability.

Johnson, who works out of Gym Express in Centerville, specializes in helping people get in shape before and after surgeries, such as hip replacements. She works with people of all ages from children to her oldest client who is in her 80s.

That is why she says that she never takes age as an excuse for not exercising.

She is also a proponent of exercising anywhere, be it a nearby playground, school or park. Taking a brisk walk around the neighborhood is a way to start moving, she says. And using common items, like chairs and tables in a home or office, to support push ups and dips, can all be a part of an exercise plan.
