BARNSTABLE – Barnstable Schools Superintendent Mary Czajkowski will leave the district at the end of this school year to take the job of superintendent in the town of Lexington. But this week there will be a celebration of one of  the accomplishments of which Czajkowski said she is most proud.

Barnstable Public Schools will have a groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday, March 11 at 10 a.m. for the New Barnstable Early Learning Center at Hyannis West Elementary School.

Hyannis West Elementary School is located at 549 West Main Street, Hyannis.

There will be representatives from Barnstable Public Schools, the town of Barnstable, and the Town Council attending the groundbreaking.

The public is encouraged and welcomed to attend the ceremony.

Having a designated early learning center had been talked about by the Barnstable School Committee for the past several years as has the project to remove the portable trailers at Hyannis West and Barnstable-West Barnstable Elementary School.

Last spring, Barnstable Public Schools worked with TBA Architects, Inc. to come up with a design for the modular construction for the early learning center.

Triumph Modular won the bid for the new modular center in the fall of 2014.

The New Early Learning Center, which includes six classrooms, will open in September 2015 for use by all of the district’s pre-kindergarten students.

Listen below to hear Dr. Mary Czajkowski talk about the new state-of-the-art early learning center, as well as other accomplishments and challenges during her tenure in Barnstable.
