The Campus Call: Cape Cod Collegiate Athletes in the News

Former Nauset Regional High School star Robyn Argo just completed her senior campaign as a long distance woman for the UMass-Amherst Minutewomen and is busy preparing for the spring track & field season. Last spring, Argo was named to the 2014 Atlantic 10 Commissioner’s Spring Honor Roll and this past fall she finished 100th at the CCSU Mini-Meet (10/24)

with a time of 11:45.47. As a junior at UMass, she saw action in four meets and finished 11th on the team (106th overall) at the CCSU Mini-Meet (10/25) with a time of 11:38.60. As a sophomore, Argo finished sixth for UMass in the New England Championships with a time of 19:37.99 (10/7) and crossed the finish line at 20:42.62 and placed 11th for the Minutewomen in the Minuteman Invitational (9/15). She placed seventh for UMass and tenth overall in the UMass Invitational with a time of 20:41.12 (9/8). Argo was a four-year letterwinner for the Nauset Warriors until her graduation in 2011. She was named Nauset cross country MVP, won the Coaches Award and was an ACL all-star for the three seasons she participated in cross country. She also ran track and field and received four varsity letters and was a member of the National Honor Society. Argo is the daughter of Walter and Kathleen Argo of Orleans and is majoring in Nutrition.

St. Anselm Hawks football defensive back Zach Morgan, a 2013 Nauset Regional High School graduate, recently completed another fine season chasing down running backs and wide receivers on the collegiate gridiron. An Eastham native, Morgan is a business major and is the son of Andrew and Ruthanne Morgan of Eastham.

2014 Pope John Paul II (Hyannis) graduate Matt Thacher recently finished his freshman season playing wide receiver for the St. Anselm Skyhawks gridders. A native of Yarmouthport, Thacher played four years of four years of football and baseball at Pope John Paul II, as well as three years of varsity basketball. He was a Catholic Central Small All-Star and was part of Pope John Paul II’s Division 4 Baseball State Championship his senior year (last spring). An undeclared major, Thacher is the son of Fred and Mary Beth Thacher of Yarmouthport.

New Hampton Prep graduate Preston Kaye is in the midst of his senior collegiate hockey season as a defenseman for the SUNY Plattsburgh men’s ice hockey team. An Orleans

native, Kaye played a year of junior hockey before joining the Cardinals. He was last in action against Cortland State before the holidays and will return to the ice in January against Norwich University. A business major, he is the son of Walter and Patricia Kaye of Orleans.

The Quinnipiac University men’s baseball team is busy this winter preparing for the upcoming Division 1 NCAA collegiate season with a pair of Cape Cod natives on the 2015 roster: 2014 Pope John Paul II graduate Ben Gibson and Avon Old Farms School graduate Wyatt Hamilton. Hamilton, a 6’7” righty pitcher, hails from Falmouth and is a freshman business major hurling for the Bobcats. He is the son of Jeff and Alexia Hamilton of Falmouth. Gibson, a three-sport standout for the Pope John Paul II Lions for four years, helped lead the school to the Div. 4 Massachusetts State baseball championship last spring. He is a 6’5” righty pitcher who hails from Sagamore Beach.

Falmouth High School Class of 2011’s Kristin Estes is busy wrapping up her collegiate career at Smith College. Estes, a senior biology major at Smith, has been riding for the Smith women’s equestrian team for four years.

Mashpee High School Class of 2011’s Lindsey Rappazzo recently wrapped up a fine career playing field hockey for Nichols College. A senior forward, Rappazzo scored three goals and had one assist in 17 games for the Bisons this season. She scored a goal in her final collegiate game against Salve Regina on November 1.

Mashpee’s Lindsey Stewart, a 2012 Falcons graduate, turned in a fine season this past fall for the Nichols College women’s soccer team. A junior midfielder/forward, Stewart scored goals against Fisher College and the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in 17 games for the Bisons. She took 18 shots on goal and started in eight games in her third collegiate season.

Anna Maria College senior Corey Andrade is getting ready for the 2015 college baseball season this winter. The left-handed hitting, 6’2” first baseman belted one homer last spring, hit .325 and had 11 RBI in 29 games for the Amcats. A Mashpee High School graduate, Andrade had a .482 slugging percentage last spring. Andrade was also selected to the 2014 Worcester Area Baseball All-Star team. The team is selected by a vote of sports information directors representing all 10 Worcester area colleges and universities.

Mashpee native and Boston College High School graduate Neal Horan is busy preparing this winter for the 2015 college baseball season. Horan, a 6’5”, 220-lb. righty pitcher, went 1-1 last spring with a 0.89 ERA for the Stonehill College Skyhawks men’s baseball team. A senior finance major, Horan was named to the 2014 Northeast-10 Commissioner’s Honor Roll and the Stonehill College Athletic Director’s Honor Roll both semesters last year. Horan was part of the 2009 BC High Eagles Massachusetts Division 1 State Champion baseball team. He is the son of Mark and Lynne Horan of Mashpee.

Mt. Holyoke College lacrosse player Nicole Perkins is enjoying a fine collegiate athletic career. A Mashpee resident and former Falcon standout, Perkins started in four games last season for the Lyons as a sophomore. Now a junior, the defenseman was a five-time letterman at Mashpee High School in field hockey and lacrosse. She is the daughter of Debra and Michael Perkins of Mashpee.

Framingham State University’s mens lacrosse team boasts a quartet of former Cape Cod high school star athletes this year. Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School graduate Matt Quattrucci, a junior midfielder who hails from West Barnstable, Nantucket’s Miles Geddes, a junior, Mashpee High School graduate Sam McGuire, a 6’4” sophomore defenseman and junior Brandon Downey, a former Sandwich Blue Knights standout at the attack position.

Nauset Regional High School graduate Joe Beasley is a junior on the Nichols College men’s tennis team and is headed for his third spring season playing for the Bisons. Last spring, Beasley notched a 6-4, 6-2 win at number four singles against Anna Maria College.
