PROVINCETOWN – A Virginia couple hoping to row across the Atlantic Ocean on their way to Ireland, were stopped by rough seas today and were towed back to shore.
Tabor Academy graduate Cindy Way and her boyfriend James Caple departed from Scituate on Monday, but they were originally planning to launch from Chatham in May.
The pair made it about 570 miles north of Scituate before the water and winds became too rough for their voyage.
Towboat U.S. in Provincetown was called and were towing the 24 foot rowing boat back to shore.
The boat was expected to get back to Provincetown around 5 p.m.
The Coast Guard was not called to rescue the pair and no assets were used.
Caple and Way are the latest to attempt the trans-Atlantic trip.
British adventurer Sarah Outen had to be rescued at sea last year after she began her journey in Chatham.
