PLYMOUTH – The county sheriff in Plymouth is warning residents in the region about a surge in email and phone scams.
Joseph McDonald said scammers are claiming to be deputy sheriffs of IRS agents and are demanding credit card information, electronic payments or social security numbers.
At no time will deputy sheriffs or IRS agents ask for social security numbers, credit card information or other electronic payments over the phone.
McDonald said residents that receive these calls should hang up immediately.
