ORLEANS – State shark expert Dr. Greg Skomal and researchers with the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy tagged the 21st great white shark of 2016 today.
The 13-foot shark was tagged off the coast of Orleans.
The shark was outfitted with a combination acoustic and pop-off satellite archival tag.
The conservancy is closing in on last year’s total of 24 tagged sharks, and is in the third year of a five-year white shark population study.
Eighteen white sharks were tagged in the first year of the study in 2014.
