EASTHAM – Eastham Police report that on Monday at 7:22 PM, they responded to a single vehicle crash in the area of 2455 State Highway (Route 6) near Samoset Road. A Lexus SUV was traveling south on Route 6 and left the roadway just past the Eastham Superette parking lot. The vehicle went airborne, struck a utility pole, rolled over and came to rest against a tree. The male operator of the vehicle was transported by ambulance to Barnstable Municipal Airport where he was flown by a MedFlight Helicopter to a Boston area hospital. The crash resulted in several power lines, and other utility lines, obstructing the roadway. Route 6 was closed for several hours while utilities crews replaced the pole and restored power. Along with the Eastham Police and Fire Departments assistance was provided by the Orleans Fire Department, the Orleans Police Department, and the Barnstable County Bureau of Criminal Investigations. The crash is currently under investigation by the Eastham Police Department.
