YARMOUTH, Mass. (AP) — The Yarmouth Police Department is dedicating its annual charity run in memory of an officer who was killed this month in the line of duty.
Sgt. Sean Gannon was shot and killed April 12 while he and other officers were serving an arrest warrant at a home in Marstons Mills.
The department says this year’s YPD BLUE 5K race, scheduled for May 20, will be run in his honor.
A message on the race’s website reads, “We run together to remember the hero we have lost but who lives forever in our hearts.”
Gannon was an 8-year veteran of the department. His police dog, Nero, was also shot, but underwent surgery and is recovering.
