EASTHAM – On Wednesday at approximately 8:40 AM, the Eastham Police Department and Eastham Fire and Rescue Department responded to a report of a motor vehicle striking a bicyclist on Herring Brook Road near Bridge Drive. The first responding units located a bicyclist on the ground in the roadway with a significant head injury. It was also quickly determined that there was not a motor vehicle involved in the incident. The injured bicyclist was transported by the Eastham Fire Department to Barnstable Municipal Airport to meet a waiting MedFight helicopter. Later in the day, the identity of the victim was determined to be Andrzej Siwik, 73, of Connecticut. Mr. Siwik was flown to a Rhode Island hospital for medical treatment and there is no update on his status at this time. Eastham Police are continuing to investigate.
