Slippery Roads Blamed for Morning Crashes

YARMOUTH – Snow fall has created slippery conditions on the Cape’s roadways today.slush

State and local police have responded to several rollovers because of snowy conditions.

At about 10 a.m., a car rolled off Route 6 and down an embankment onto its roof in the westbound lane just east of Exit 7. The driver was taken to Cape Cod Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A state trooper said snow on the roadway was to blame.

State police shut the road for about 25 minutes to clear the snow.

Police said speed was to blame for a crash that happened at about 5:15 this morning as a sedan in Falmouth rolled over on Route 28 heading south toward Falmouth just before the Brick Kiln Road exit.

The driver was able to extricate himself from the car before rescue workers arrived. He was transported to Falmouth Hospital with minor injuries, according to police.

A couple of accidents blocked up Route 132 in Hyannis at about 8 a.m. when one car drove into a snow bank and two cars collided in the middle of the intersection of Route 132 and Shootflying Hill Road.

Police said no one was taken to the hospital as a result of the crashes.

Barnstable Police Sergeant Sean Sweeney said it was likely that roads were becoming slippery as snow fall was increasing.
