WELLFLEET – A Massachusetts Environmental Police Officer underway on patrol outside of Wellfleet Harbor located a leatherback turtle entangled in fishing gear. The gear line was wrapped so tightly around the turtle’s neck that the Officer was unable to disentangle the animal.
The Officer was able to pick up a staff member from the Center for Coastal Studies in Provincetown. Thanks to the assistance of CCS, the leatherback turtle was safely freed and able to swim away without further incident.
