BOURNE – From Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office: Barnstable County Sheriff’s inmates have given a vinyl-sided facelift to the rear of the Buzzards Bay Eagles Club and replaced the building’s exterior staircase while they were at it. The $5,400 saved by using inmate labor will help the Eagles provide Thanksgiving meals to needy families in the Bourne area.
The Club has prepared and delivered 200-350 Thanksgiving meals the last two Thanksgivings and will be able to continue the tradition this year despite the repairs on the building.
It’s not the first time Barnstable County inmates have provided labor for repairs at the Club. Several years ago they replaced the roof. Says Sheriff Jim Cummings: “We donate labor to them, they pass it along in the form of charitable works. A win, win.”
