BOURNE – Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical School will celebrate its 50th anniversary with an inaugural Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
The school, which has been educating students in preparation for the workforce since 1969, will hold the event on October 25 at the Sea Crest Beach Hotel in North Falmouth.
The Hall of Fame will honor individuals who have made significant contributions to Upper Cape Tech as students, staff or community members, according to Superintendent Robert Dutch.
“We’ll be inducting the first class of six members into the new hall of Fame,” Dutch said. “We’ll also be celebrating the past.”
A video will be shown at the event which takes a look at the school over the past 50 years. All yearbooks since the school opened in 1969 will also be on display.
The celebration includes a three-course dinner.
The inaugural Hall of Fame class includes former principal Robert Maguire and former administrative assistant Susan Mullaney, graduates Tammy Garcia (1990), John Aruda (2000) and Matthew Bourke (2005), along with community member Louis Wilson.
“There were so many folks nominated and they all had significant contributions,” Dutch said. “We had a challenge identifying that group.”
Dutch said preparing for the celebration also led to stronger appreciation for the changes made at the school since its inception.
“We’ve looked at how the school has transitioned over time in that 50 years just from the programs that exited and the industries that were prevalent on the Cape to where we are today, which has changed pretty significantly,” he said.
Dutch also anticipates many changes for the school over the next 50 years.
“What will change is the programs as the needs and technology changes on the Cape, and the demographics have changed and will continue to change as far as our population,” Dutch said.
He also thinks there will be a greater need to reeducate adults who need to change careers as they are phased out.
“Many of the traditional industries that we’ve paired students for – the construction trades, mechanical trades, and automotive repair/collision repair – will continue to exist,” Dutch said.

“We wanted to make sure that everybody could participate who wanted to. We didn’t want to make it cost prohibitive so this is being done at cost,” Dutch said. “It’s not intended as a fundraiser. This is purely a celebration of our 50 years of existence.”
