WOODS HOLE – The Steamship Authority has created a potential ferry terminal plan that has gained support from both local officials and Woods Hole residents.
The plan was pitched to selectmen by General Manager Robert Davis this week. The terminal would be one story tall, flat-roofed, and equipped with solar panels.
It would house the ticket office, waiting areas, bathrooms, and other important areas for operations. An additional two-story building would be built for trash, equipment storage, a lost and found, and more.
“The idea is to try to come back with a design of the terminal building and the utility building that’s more in fitting with what the community is looking for, but also serves our requirements,” Davis said.
The residents of Woods Hole have been concerned that the new terminal building could be an eye sore moving forward, but the new plan looks to satisfy all parties to this point.
“I think you’ve really come out of the box with this,” said Selectman Douglas Brown.
“It’s a good idea, and better for the customers. I think now you’re on track with something there creative.”
The new plan adds $3 million to the overall project cost, which requires approval from the Steamship Authority’s board. The Steamship Authority was recently granted $2.5 million in federal money for this project.
