FALMOUTH – Falmouth Fire-Rescue reports that Thursday evening at 7:50 PM, a caller driving by the Falmouth Housing Corporation property located at 704 Main Street reported an exterior fire on a second-floor balcony of the building. Engine 21, Engine 25, Engine 24, Ladder 26, and Car 28 were dispatched. First arriving units reported heavy fire on the exterior of the structure. Engine 21 made an aggressive exterior attack on the fire, which prevented further flame from spreading into the structure. All occupants self-evacuated or were assisted to safety by Fire Rescue personnel. The fire was reported knocked down and under control shortly after 8:00 PM. Several apartments on the second and third floors sustained water, heat, and smoke damage. Three commercial units on the first floor were compromised as well. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Falmouth Fire Rescue Department and the Falmouth Police Department. Most of the building occupants were able to return to their apartments. Accommodations for several tenants were being handled by Falmouth Housing Corporation. There were no reported injuries.
