Military device found in Bourne

BOURNE – A military style device was discovered in Bourne Tuesday morning. The Mass State Police bomb squad was called to a Depot Road location in Cataumet and rendered the device safe.

From Bourne Police: At approximately 0927 hours, Bourne Police responded to a report of a possible unexploded mortar round discovered while the homeowner was working in the back yard of a residence on Depot Road. Arriving officers were directed to the rear of the property where the ordinance was located. Bourne Fire, as well as units from the Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad responded to the residence to assist. The ordinance was examined by the bomb squad, after which it was determined that the device was an inert training munition, and posed no hazard.

The device was removed from the area by the bomb squad. Based on the location of the device at the time it was found, no evacuations were needed and there was no danger to the public. We would like to thank the Bourne Fire Department and the Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad for their assistance with this incident.
