OSTERVILLE – Seven Seahawks scored multiple goals Thursday afternoon in the drizzling cold as Cape Cod Academy defeated its guest Sturgis East, 17-2.
The Seahawks are now 2-1 on the season and Sturgis East falls to 0-2.
Freshman Mariah Van Sciver put the Seahawks on the scoreboard just 1:34 into the first half and ended up with a hat trick on the day, joined by the precocious Lilah Way, a sixth-grader, who notched a hat trick as well.
Seniors Amelia Way, Jordan “Jo Jo” Edmonds, Rebekah Nicolas, junior Becca White and 7th grader Lilly Burke each scored two goals on the day. Senior Tori Alberico and Katherine “Katie” Bailey both added goals as well.
White was the top point scorer for the Seahawks as she tacked on three assists to go along with her two goals. Amelia Way and Nicolas also added assists.
“I think in the second half we did a pretty good job of implementing our game plan, but it still needs to be more balanced,” Cape Cod Academy head coach Jennifer Peterson said. “We played pretty good today.”
Sturgis East picked up goals from Hannah Conklin and Sasha McEnaney.
Cape Cod Academy faces a new opponent on Monday (April 13) in Falmouth High School at home at 3:30 pm.
Sturgis East hopes to get on the winning track Monday (April 13) against Falmouth Academy at 4:00 pm. No field has been designated for this game as of yet.
