CAPE COD – Several thunderstorms moved across the Upper and Mid Cape Tuesday evening.
Continuous lightning and torrential downpours were reported along with wind gusts to 62 MPH at Barnstable Municipal Airport. A large tree was reported down blocking the road at the intersection of Main Street and Old Mill Road in Osterville. Downed wires forced the closure of Route 28 in Hyannis from the Airport Rotary to Yarmouth Road. As many has 8,600 Eversource customers lost electricity across the upper and mid Cape. There were numerous other reports of trees and wires down in the area. As of 6 a.m. just over 1,000 customers remained without power, mostly in Falmouth. Falmouth Police advised Route 28 at Thomas B. Landers Road would be closed for several hours while power lines are repaired there.
