YARMOUTH – Three people sitting on Smugglers Beach in Yarmouth luckily escaped with only minor injuries after being struck by a car. An elderly driver reportedly hit the gas instead of the brake and sped forward out of the parking lot onto the beach hitting a bench. One of the victims was taken to Cape Cod Hospital for evaluation. Yarmouth Police are investigating the incident and cited the driver, Frederick H. Bately, 88, of West Yarmouth for operating negligently to endanger. Police also requested the RMV to revoke Bately’s license as an “immediate threat”.
