The “Big Game” is this weekend and what goes great with football? Food, of course!
So here’s a breakdown of what most people will be consuming on Super Bowl Sunday and exactly how much…
– 10 million pounds of ribs. According to the National Pork Board, that’s how many ribs are sold the week of the Super Bowl.
– 12.5 million pounds of bacon. Again, according to the National Pork Board, that is the amount of bacon purchased during the week of the Super Bowl.
– Pizza. I think this is a given! There’s no cooking involved (unless you choose to make it yourself) and you don’t even have to get off your butt to get it, just call for delivery! On average, pizza shop business shoots up 35 percent on Super Bowl Sunday.
– Chicken wings. It’s no surprise that a whole boatload of chicken wings are consumed on Super Bowl Sunday. According to the National Chicken Council, Americans eat approximately 1.23 billion chicken wings.
Now, after eating all of this food and more than likely unbuttoning your pants to do so, just how many calories do you think you consumed? It’s actually less than I thought! I would have guessed about 5,000 calories…but no, the average number of calories Americans consume while watching the Super Bowl is around 2,400. Not great…but could be worse, right? Maybe trade out some of those strips of bacon for carrots and hummus or something? Just a thought :). Enjoy the game however you choose to spend your Super Bowl Sunday!
