BREWSTER – Around 12:15 p.m. on Friday the Brewster Fire Department responded to a report of an overturned catamaran in Cape Cod Bay off Breakwater Beach. The south wind at the time was gusting upwards of 30 mph.
Brewster Fire Chief Robert Moran said the reporting party told dispatch that the sole occupant of the boat had been struggling for some time to right the vessel. Brewster launched its zodiac boat and requested mutual aid from Dennis. The Dennis Fire Department launched its rescue boat 119 from Sesuit Harbor and responded to the area.
The vessel had drifted around 500 yards off shore when Dennis 119 picked up the sailor, who was wearing a life jacket and was uninjured. The catamaran was righted and towed toward shore where it had to be anchored as the tide went out.
