Bourne Police release 1st quarter drug overdose numbers

BOURNE – Bourne Police have released overdose numbers that indicate the opiate drug crisis continues to grip the region.

According to police statistics, since January 1st, there have been 27 overdoses in Bourne, including 4 fatal overdoses.

Seventeen overdoses involved opiates and 3 of the 4 fatal overdoses were opiate related. Just since April 1, 2017, there have been at total of 8 overdoses, including 5 that were opiate related.

Thirteen of those calls involved the police or fire department providing naloxone to reverse the effects of the opiate overdose.

Bourne Police urge that if you know of anyone you suspect of having an opiate or other prescription related addiction, don’t give up on them. Reach out to resources that may be available and keep on trying to point them in the right direction.
