HYANNIS – Firefighters were called to Alberto’s Ristorante on Main Street in Hyannis around noon. Smoke was reported in the basement. A fire was reportedly discovered behind the cooking area. Firefighters stretched at least two hose lines inside to douse the fire. Fire officials reported fire in the floor in several spots possibly extending into a wall. The restaurant was open at the time. All customers and employees safely evacuated. A second alarm was struck for additional help as firefighters worked in the high heat. The fire was declared knocked down about 12:45 p.m. North Street in the area was closed due to apparatus and hoses in the street causing major traffic delays. The road reopened about 2 p.m. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
