BARNSTABLE – Barnstable Fire reports that On October 20, 2019 at 1:28 PM, they were dispatched to the area of 56 Allyn Lane for a reported structure fire. A first alarm assignment was transmitted and the first engine company arrived on scene at 84 Allyn Lane, four minutes after being dispatched. First arriving companies encountered a two-and-a-half story wood-frame residential dwelling with heavy fire showing. Initial arriving crews were quickly able to determine that the residence was unoccupied and due to the amount of fire involvement (75%) initiated a defensive, exterior fire attack. Three alarms were transmitted bringing approximately 50 firefighters from six mutual aid fire departments to the scene. A total of five handlines were in operation for fire attack and two hydrant lines were established to provide water supply. The fire was declared under control in approximately 90 minutes and crews remained on scene for several hours longer extinguishing hot spots and conducting overhaul operations.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation and is being conducted in coordination with the Barnstable Fire Department, Barnstable Police Department, and the Massachusetts State Police assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s Office. Mutual aid was provided on scene by the West Barnstable, Hyannis, Centerville-Osterville-Marstons Mills, Yarmouth, and Sandwich Fire Departments. The Cotuit Fire Department provided station coverage at the Barnstable Fire station during the incident. The American Red Cross provided assistance to the fire crews on scene.
