Dennis Police offering Senior Citizen’s Police Academy

– The Dennis Police Department will be sponsoring the 3rd  Senior Citizen’s Police Academy to be held during the day at the Dennis Senior Center, located at 1045 Route 134 in South Dennis.  All classes will be held from 2:00-3:30pm on the following dates: Oct. 17th, Oct. 19th, Oct. 25th, Oct. 27th, Oct. 31st, Nov. 2nd, and Nov. 8th.

Topics of instruction will include:

  1. Community Policing
  2. Patrol functions
  3. Investigative Functions
  4. Criminal Law
  5. Accident Reconstruction/Traffic Enforcement
  6. Domestic animal responses
  7. Victim Services
  8. Scams

This is an abbreviated version of the full Citizen’s Police Academy.  The classes are held during the daytime and will provide a general overview and insight into the inner-workings of the police department.  Preference will be given to Dennis residents or to those who work in the town.  Applicants will be subjected to a criminal background check.

Applications can be obtained at the Dennis Police Station or the Dennis Senior Center. Contact Officer Liz Tucker of the Community Policing Unit at 774-352-1537 with any questions.  Deadline for submittal of application is Tuesday, October 3, 2017.
