Harwich Fire remind public to leave suspicious items in place and call 911

HARWICH – Harwich Fire report that on Tuesday, an unknown individual left some blasting caps in the Public Safety Lobby. Blasting caps are used to set off other explosives and while relatively safe, they are sensitive and should be handled with care.

Members of the Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad came the the Fire Station, where the caps had been moved to and detonated them harmlessly behind the station.

Once again the Harwich Police and Fire Departments remind people if they have something they are unsure of what it is, or may been potentially hazardous, they should not bring it into the Public Safety building.

We prefer that you call us and have us come to your location to examine the item and deal with it accordingly. If you have it with you, leave it outside the facility until we can determine what should be done with it.
