UPDATED: House fire in Barnstable

BARNSTABLE
From Barnstable Fire: The Barnstable Fire Department responded Thursday evening at 8:12 PM to a single family residential building on Captain Loring Lane where a second-floor fire was reported. First arriving units were on scene within four minutes of the call and found fire and heavy smoke on the second floor of the dwelling. The fire was quickly knocked down and fire crews were on scene for approximately an hour and a half ventilating the building which sustained heavy heat and smoke damage to the second floor.

The occupants of the home escaped unharmed with their two family pets, thanks in part to being alerted of the smoke and fire condition by having functioning smoke detectors in the home. Additionally, damage to the rest of the home was minimal due to several doors being closed throughout the building. Mutual aid from West Barnstable and Hyannis Fire Departments assisted at the scene as well as the Barnstable Police. There were no injuries to the occupants or any of the firefighters. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Barnstable Fire Department would like to reiterate the importance of having functioning smoke detectors and to keep doors closed to prevent fire spread, particularly in bedrooms when sleeping.
