HARWICH PORT – Following a report of a driver striking two telephone poles on Route 28 Wednesday about 7:30 PM in West Harwich, the vehicle was stopped by Harwich Police in front of Cranberry Liquors in Harwich Port. The Chevrolet truck and trailer were heavily damaged. The male operator was placed under arrest at the scene for operating under the influence of liquor and according to reports when officers attempted to put him in the cruiser he allegedly assaulted both Harwich officers and spit on them. He will be held overnight at HPD and arraigned Thursday morning in Orleans District Court.
