Police: Man drowned while scalloping on Nantucket

NANTUCKET – Nantucket Police report that David Masters, 68, of Nantucket, drowned while push raking for scallops on the west end of the island on Sunday. Emergency personnel responded to to the report of a distressed man in the water off Jackson Point around 4:30 p.m.

Police say that while fishing, Masters waded into deeper water where he ran into trouble and called for help. People in the area called 911 and began to assist in getting him from the water. A boater responded to the calls for help and pulled Masters from the water unresponsive. CPR was started and he was transported to shore. First responders transported Masters to Nantucket Cottage Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
