Provincetown Police update community on Commercial St. construction

Commercial St. Construction Update From Provincetown Police

The work on Commercial Street associated with the Phase III improvements continue.

We appreciate everyone’s efforts and understanding as the project moves forward.

As mentioned in last week’s email notice, the work schedule was moved forward as a result of the work completed on the Friday and Saturday of the long Thanksgiving weekend.

We are pleased to say that the major disruptions along the work zone will be coming to an end for the season shortly.

The work schedule for the upcoming week is as follows:

• Excavation work through Johnson Street was completed today.
• Re-grading of the stone reservoir between Dyer Street and Johnson Street will be completed by Monday afternoon, December 12, 2016,
• The porous asphalt binder course will be placed through this section on Tuesday, December 13, 2016. Note that porous asphalt work will be delayed until mid-morning giving a chance for the temperature to increase. Early morning asphalt work is scheduled for Tuesday to address side streets, and driveways on the eastern section of the project.
• Vehicular access between Dyer Street and Johnson Street will be restricted until Thursday afternoon, December 15, 2016.

Note that access to Dyer Street from Commercial Street is not available during this closure.

• Once the porous pavement along this section of the roadway is cured, Commercial Street will be open to vehicles between Howland St. and Johnson Street.

Other work associated with the project:

• Crews will continue to raise water, sewer, and drainage structures along Commercial Street. Although many of these structures are in the traveled way, closures of Commercial Street are not anticipated,
• Curbing and sidewalk excavation work is complete and the brick sidewalk work will continue next week. As of this writing, the brickwork is approaching Dyer Street. Note that once the brick is placed, compaction and application of polymeric sand is required. This phase of the brickwork is now completed through Bangs Street,
• The water connection at Johnson Street is complete and all water services, fire services, and hydrants are connected to the new water main,
• As mentioned above, side streets and driveways, on the eastern end of the project, will be paved with traditional asphalt binder on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 in conjunction with the porous asphalt application.
• Miscellaneous brickwork for driveways disturbed during construction, will start on both sides of Commercial Street as necessary, after the brick sidewalk work is complete.
• Access over the new asphalt will be restricted for approximately 30 hours, once the material is placed,
• Preparation of remaining side street aprons, driveway aprons, and private property access walkways will continue, as the weather and time allows.

And finally here are two pictures from taken from the construction site. The crew stopped to help a resident make the final few steps into her house.

Strong work by Contractor employees Robbie Our, Kenny Silva and our own Police Officer Brian Keyes!
