PROVINCETOWN – The Provincetown Harbormaster and the Coast Guard were kept busy Monday afternoon. Around 3 p.m. a report came in of a man in distress trying to get to a boat that drifted away in the harbor. A Good Samaritan reportedly assisted the person to safety. Minutes later a swimmer was reported in distress off the far east end of Commercial Street (above). He was able to make shore and was assisted up the rocks by a Truro Police officer who was on traffic duty there because of a fire down the road along with some Good Samaritians. The victim, who was wearing a life preserver, declined medical treatment. Brewster firefighters also responded to reports of a vessel in distress. That boat was able to get into port safely.
