Truro offers police chief job to Warwick RI Captain

TRURO
– The Town of Truro has offered the Chief of Police job to a Warwick, RI Captain.

Jamie Calise was the Captain in charge of the Detective Division of the Warwick, RI Police Department and has 20 years experience with the department.

The job is pending contract negotiations. The Truro Select Board voted 4-1 to offer the job to Calise.

Selectmen Robert Weinstein said Calise has achieved a high level of rank within his current department and has an unblemished record and a level or personability.

Selectman Jay Coburn said Calise is “poised and ready” to be in Truro for the important part of his career.

“I also was impressed with his strong commitment to mentoring and wellness,” Coburn said.

Coburn also said the recent killing of Yarmouth Police Sgt. Sean Gannon in the line of duty points out the high stress of police work and the need for a commitment to wellness.

Town Manager Rae Ann Palmer said if negotiations are successful, an additional background check and medical exam will be conducted.

There would also be a full background investigation by an outside firm.
