I hope whether you live here, or are here on vacation, that you’re enjoying the glorious weather. There’s so much to do—from looking for seals at Nauset Beach or on the shores of Chatham, to walking and shopping our wonderful main streets and local shops.

And then of course there are so many other activities and events, a smattering of which I will detail below. No matter what you choose to do while you’re here, I hope you have fun doing it!

I was reading about a program off-Cape that sounded amazing, and lo and behold, a good friend, (thank you Amanda Converse!) pointed out a local program doing the same thing. We live in an area that is host to lots of weddings and events that have beautiful flower arrangements. Sadly, these gorgeous blooms often just get thrown in the trash after the wedding or party. This is where Flower Angels comes in. Flower Angels takes those beautiful arrangements and brings them to people who could really use something to brighten their lives. They deliver to nursing homes, hospice care, hospitals and really anywhere. So if you have an event, or even just vases or  small amount of flowers you’d like to donate, please do go to their website. Their motto is, “Delivering random acts of love. Recycling flowers…warming hearts.” What could be better than that?!

Music

Am mentioning this event early, don’t worry, I’ll remind you about it again closer to the date. On Tuesday, July 28, at 8:00, Lady Lamb will be performing at the gorgeous Cape Cinema in Dennis. Lady Lamb, also known as Aly Spaltro, is originally from Brunswick, Maine, but now calls Brooklyn home. Her sound is, well you take a listen and see what you think! I really like her. For tickets, which are $15,  and more information about the show go to the theater website.

Family Events

Every summer, WHAT for Kids in Wellfleet puts on a fantastically wonderful play that everyone in your family will enjoy. This year is no different. Written and directed by Stephen Russell, “The Fool of the World and the Flying Ship” is an entertaining and fun play that will keep the kids entertained, and has wonderful humor that will tickle the funny bone of the grownups as well. As always, Russell has assembled the best of the best of local talent. It’s rare to find a play everyone in the family will enjoy, put this one on your list as a must-see. The play will be running Monday through Thursday until August 27. Tickets and more information are available here.

Also at WHAT is “Moby Dick.” If you haven’t gotten out to see it yet, this is your last chance to see this fun and creative staging of a classic story. The play closes on Saturday night. So get your tickets now.

I just read the words, “Fairy Houses” and almost squealed in delight—good thing I didn’t since I’m writing in a coffee shop. In Falmouth there is an exhibit of little fairy houses that 30 local artists have created and for only $5 for a map you can go see them on display outside. I can’t imagine too many better things to do as a family. This little tiny homes are scattered throughout the grounds at Highland Hall. If you’d like to go, you can find more information about this special exhibit at their website.

Theater

The Harbor Stage Company is presenting an original play, “Northside Hollow,” written by theater members, Brenda Withers and Jonathan Fielding. The play is about a miner who is trapped beneath the Earth, and the first responder who comes to try to rescue him. Everything at Harbor Stage is always creative and unique. It’s always a fantastic night out at the theater. “Northside Hollow” is opening this Thursday and will be running until August 8. You can find more information about the play and purchase tickets here.

Comedy

The wonderful Paula Poundstone will be performing at the Cape Cod Melody Tent on this Thursday night—quick! get your tickets! I love her dry and quick wit, and also her love of cats. She is one of the best comics out there today. She’s been around for a while, and is as sharp and relevant as ever. You can buy tickets online.

Hydrangea Festival

One of the most wonderful things about Cape Cod in the summer is our abundance of those spectacular blue, pink and white blooms. Nowhere are they more abundant that at the Heritage Museums in Sandwich. And they are featured during the first annual Cape Cod Hydrangea Festival. They are running tours a couple of times a day, and you can check out their schedule, fees and get directions to the museum right  here.
