‘Blitz Build’ Returning to Cape Cod in 2019

YARMOUTH PORT – In an effort to raise awareness of the region’s affordable housing crisis, the Home Builders and Remodelers Association of Cape Cod will hold another “Blitz Build” this year.

More than 100 Cape Cod homebuilders, remodelers and suppliers will work to construct a Habitat for Humanity home in Brewster in one week in September.

“We are looking to get as many builders as possible involved,” said Linda Miner, the Blitz Build chairperson. “It’s a great community incentive and we are hoping people will come out and support us.”

The two-story, three-bedroom Cape style home will be one of eight affordable homes built in the second phase of a 14-home Habitat subdivision on Paul Hush Way.

The home will be sold to a qualifying family for $150,000.

This is the organization’s fourth “Blitz Build” on Cape Cod since 2013. The first was in Orleans, the second was in Harwich in 2015, and the third was in Brewster in 2017.

“It’s a great way for the builders and the association to come together and get involved and create something and show what can be done when people work together,” Miner said.

“And ultimately have a home available for one of Habitat’s candidates.

The build, which is scheduled from September 16-20, is a large undertaking.

“It requires a lot of organization,” Miner said.

The build brings together builders, planners and vendors, who donate labor and materials.

“We have a great committee and we break up the tasks,” Miner said. “It is very well orchestrated. I think every year we learn a little bit more and how to do things more efficiently.”

The Blitz Build program makes it possible for Habitat to build more homes without overextending capacity or significantly increasing overhead.
