BARNSTABLE – At least $50,000 in funding for flood prevention efforts for Barnstable’s Blish Point neighborhood has survived the Massachusetts budget process.
The funding was part of the commonwealth’s $41.7 billion Fiscal Year 2019 budget signed by Governor Charlie Baker last week.
“Time is not our friend or ally,” said Blish Point resident Peter Halesworth, “That’s why we’ve been trying to create as much of a sense of urgency as possible at all levels of government, and we think our state elected officials have heard our call and are responding as quickly as possible.”
The area of land between Millway Beach and Maraspin Creek saw significant flood damage during winter nor’easters to more than 30 homes.
“It’s be welcome relief for our neighborhood,” says Halesworth, “which is a thriving neighborhood and growing and very valuable to the town to be safeguarded from the excessive flooding,”
The proposal for the funding was made by State Representative Will Crocker (R-Centerville).
