PLYMOUTH – An investigation is underway after a body was discovered in a remote section of Plymouth Monday, and officials are trying to confirm if the discovery has any connection to a missing Cape Cod man.
According to Cape and Islands District Attorney Michael O’Keefe, the body was discovered as part of a joint investigation by the Mashpee Police Department, the Massachusetts State Police, and the Plymouth Police Department.
The body has not been identified yet. O’Keefe said officials would be working throughout the day Tuesday to try and identify the person.
O’Keefe confirmed that officials would investigate if the body was that of 64-year-old Mashpee resident Raymond Perry. Perry was reported missing on December 1.
“We are very actively pursuing this matter involving Mr. Perry,” O’Keefe said.
The body was discovered near the Carver town line around 10 a.m. Monday. Cadaver dogs had been searching the area for a number of days.
“It’s an area of Plymouth, on the Carver side of Plymouth, that is very remote,” O’Keefe said. “There were reasons why we were there.”
Perry’s son, 37-year-old Eli Perry, was arrested by Plymouth police during a traffic stop in which officers say they found a gun in Perry’s truck. The arrest came about a week after the elder Perry was reported missing.
Eli Perry pleaded not guilty to a charge of carrying a firearm without a license in Plymouth District Court on December 6.
