Bourne Officer MacDonald: ‘Justice Has Been Served’

BARNSTABLE – The Bourne police officer shot and wounded by Adrian Loya said he is ready to move on with his life after a Barnstable Superior Court jury found Loya guilty Tuesday.

“It’s nice to have justice served,” Officer Jared MacDonald said of the verdict. “It’s not my decision, I don’t have any control over the situation, but I feel like justice has been served.”

MacDonald was shot in the back by Loya while responding to the shootings at the home of Lisa and Anna Trubnikova in February of 2015. Anna Trubnikova, who survived the attack, delivered gripping and emotional testimony during the trial detailing the attack and the last moments of her wife’s life.

MacDonald told reporters that he looked at Loya to see if he had any reaction to the verdict.

“I really didn’t see a lot in his face,” MacDonald said of his assailant, who added that Loya did look over at Anna Trubnikova and Lisa Trubnikova’s parents while they were reading their victim impact statement.

MacDonald has dealt with nerve damage ever since the attack and has a service dog, Bullet, that helps him with walking. He said Bullet particularly helps him with getting up and down stairs.

“From here on out, everything’s a little different. We have to make do with what we have,” MacDonald said.

MacDonald has since retired from the Bourne Police Department and owns and electrical business in town.

“I’m glad there is some closure for the families,” said MacDonald’s wife, Kerry. “I still have my husband, he’s here every day with me and I’m very grateful for that. But Anna doesn’t have her wife and Lisa’s parents don’t have their daughter, and that is just unimaginable.”

Lisa Trubnikova’s parents chose not to comment following the verdict.
